The Jackson-Macon Conservation Alliance (J-MCA) encourages those who care about the beautiful Southern Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina to join the efforts to conserve and protect them. The Highlands-Cashiers plateau is a unique ecosystem; one of the most biologically diverse on earth. Many people come here to visit or live because of the incredible splendor, yet their very presence puts this rich natural environment at risk. Pressures from development issues to invasive species all create environmental challenges that must be addressed. J-MCA is the local champion fighting against causes of water & air pollution, light pollution, loss of forest lands and habitats and local climate degradation.

J-MCA was established in 2000 as an environmental voice to advocate planned and environmentally sensitive use and protection of this area’s finite land and resources. As an active voice, J-MCA networks through partnerships, committees, and task forces to address the concerns that threaten these fragile environs. Each year J-MCA organizes events, forums, and workshops all geared to bring awareness and educational knowledge to the public about environmental issues facing this area, as well as, the region, state and nation.

A plateau with a high-quality natural environment- with clean streams and air and abundant forests and wildlife, and on which public and private decisions are grounded in a caring concern for the environment.

Jackson-Macon Conservation Alliance is a grassroots conservation organization whose mission is to address environmental issues affecting the Highlands-Cashiers area through education, advocacy, hands-on initiatives and collaboration with like-minded organizations.

We invite you to contact us with your issues and and concerns. We are your environmental voice on the Highlands-Cashiers plateau and surrounding areas!
